With the start of October and the transition into the fall and the end of the year, many of us are ready to sprint straight into 2021. And who can blame us? As we look to these last few months of 2020 and into the new year, now is a great time to focus on the things you want to accomplish as Store Managers. When you think about your goals, a lot can happen by simply embracing your role as a leader.
Leaders help themselves and others to do the right things. They set direction, build an inspiring vision, and create something new. Leadership is about mapping out where you need to go to “win” as a Team or an organization; and it is dynamic, exciting, and inspiring.
We are all leaders in some capacity, whether we realize it or not. We spend our days influencing our friends, our family, our Team Members, our Clients and our community. The impact you have on each of these groups is up to you. Lolly Daskal, an executive leadership coach and founder of Lead From Within, explains that leadership is about influence and put together a list called “How to Dramatically Increase Your Influence as a Leader.”
Most of the items on her list are simple, but it’s important to remember that you have to invest in yourself in order to be a successful leader. Being a Store Manager is a tough job, especially in the current environment we are all living and working in. It can be overwhelming if you don’t come to your job every day with the right frame of mind.
In reading through Lolly’s list, challenger yourself to follow this recommendation of hers: Think bigger for others—even bigger than they think of themselves. How can you help the people around you be successful? What is your sphere of influence and how can you use it to “think bigger” for someone on your Team? Is there one person you can focus on to help lead them to success? Perhaps a Team Member needs some additional training to feel more confident on the cutting floor. Maybe there is a Team Member who is ready to take on additional responsibility and step into a leadership role of their own. Or maybe a Team Member would blossom with the opportunity to plan a Pep Rally for the store. There are numerous ways to inspire success!
Simple, sure. Easy, not exactly. Leadership takes work. It requires intent and purpose. Leaders help others succeed. When you start to see the people around you enjoy success, that success will impact your entire Team and your Clients and can ultimately lead to a successful store.
