Sport Clips Team Members Support St. Baldrick’s Head-Shaving Events

Mar 14, 2022

Long before Sport Clips Haircuts signed on as the first national partner for St. Baldrick’s Foundation, Sport Clips Team Members around the country were already supporting the organization’s shave events. Why? Because it was the right thing to do.

When Sport Clips was presented with the opportunity to officially sign on as a financial sponsor and national partner, it didn’t take long to say yes. Why? Because again, it was the right thing to do. It all ties back to our values: Do Your Best. Do What’s Right. Treat Others the Way They Want to Be Treated.

In 2016, Sport Clips committed to contribute $1 million to St. Baldrick’s over three years. The partnership was officially launched at the 2016 Sport Clips National Huddle in San Antonio, Texas where more than 130 heads were shaved at one time – setting a record for St. Baldrick’s biggest head-shaving event.

St. Baldrick’s Honored Kid Derryk, son of then-Sport Clips Stylist Nicole, helped shave the head of Sport Clips Founder Gordon Logan on-stage. “This experience meant so much to us,” Nicole said. “I was able to explain to Derryk what ‘shave the day’ meant, and he was so excited to participate.”

“More than 130 volunteers went bald that day, myself included, along with our company president and our then-VP of operations — my son,” Gordon said. “We were thrilled to raise more than $110,000 for St. Baldrick’s as a result of that one event.”

Every two minutes somewhere in the world a child is diagnosed with cancer, and while the financial contributions Sport Clips makes to St. Baldrick’s are important, the true impact comes from the various shave events around the country. As the group begins to reintroduce in-person shave events, Sport Clips Team Members will have many opportunities to get involved and participate by shaving heads – something our Stylists are specifically equipped to do.

But our support doesn’t stop there. Below are just a few of the ways Sport Clips Team Leaders and Team Members connect with St. Baldrick’s:

  • Jason McKinley, Sport Clips Team Leader, has been a long-time supporter of St. Baldrick’s by hosting shave events and providing Stylist support in New Jersey.
  • Linda Casillas, Area Coach, hosts an annual Zumba-thon in Pennsylvania to raise funds and spread awareness about the organization.
  • Frankie Perez, Area Coach from California, shaved her head a few years ago to show her commitment to the group.

Since 2016, Sport Clips has contributed more than $2.2 million to St. Baldrick’s for life-saving childhood cancer research, allowing the organization to fund research grants all over the globe. More than $312 million in research grants have been distributed around the world, and Sport Clips has contributed directly to that total. And we will continue to do so.

Earlier this week, we announced a third million-dollar commitment to the organization, including a commitment to raise funds in-store and through local events. Sport Clips President and CEO, Edward Logan, says “So many talented Sport Clips Team Members volunteer their time in local communities to support St. Baldrick’s head-shaving events. We are proud to continue our support of St. Baldrick’s and the efforts and work of the foundation.”
