Our Story

About Sport Clips

Headquartered in Georgetown, Texas, Sport Clips opened its first store in 1993 in Austin, Texas. Sport Clips CEO and founder, Gordon Logan, recognized there was a market niche in targeting just-for-guys hair salons. No longer would a guy have to enter a woman’s salon with its smelly perms and hair colors. With over 140,000,000 men nationwide looking for an alternative to typical women salons, Gordon was right on track. There’s been a little tweaking, but the original concept of creating a “Championship Experience in an exciting sports environment” remains the cornerstone of Sport Clips.

In 1995, Sport Clips started franchising the concept and opened its first franchised location in Houston, Texas.

In 2012, Sport Clips celebrated its 1000th store opening in Springboro, OH.

In 2013, Sport Clips expanded into Canada. The first Canadian store opened in Burlington, ON.

In 2016, Sport Clips celebrated the opening of its 1,500th location, which happens to be in Founder and CEO Gordon Logan’s hometown of Sumter, S.C.

Sport Clips Values

Sport Clips’ Values form the foundation upon which our reputation and success are built. They reflect the core beliefs for us to succeed. Our Values communicate what is important and what others can expect from us.

Living our Values is more than memorizing the words. It is demonstrating the Values that make up the Mission Statement, Heart of a Champion and the Three Key Questions, day-in and day-out, with everything we do and with everyone with whom we come in contact.

Mission Statement

Our Mission Statement forms the foundation upon which our reputation and success are built. It reflects the core values required for us to provide the unique Sport Clips experience. Our Mission Statement tells everyone inside and outside of Sport Clips what is important and what they can expect from us.

“To create a Championship Haircut Experience for men and boys in an exciting sport environment.”

Heart of a Champion

Coach Lou Holtz, former head coach of two national champion football teams, sets forth three rules for life that are applicable to the Sport Clips Team as they are to his football teams. These three rules are the guiding principles or values for all that we do at Sport Clips. We expect all of our Team Members to live by the following values:

Do What’s Right.

Do Your Best.

Treat Others the Way They Want to be Treated.

Three Key Questions

There are three key questions we expect to be able to ask each other and have each answered in the affirmative.

Can I trust you?

Are you committed to excellence?

Do you care about me?

Sport Clips Causes

The Sport Clips “Help A Hero” program has raised more than $3 million to help deployed and hospitalized U.S. service members call home through the VFW’s Operation Uplink™ and to provide scholarships for veterans transitioning to a civilian career.

In 2012, Sport Clips established the Wayne McGlone Memorial Relief Fund. The fund is in memory of Wayne McGlone, a much loved Sport Clips Area Developer who passed away unexpectedly. It’s purpose is to support Sport Clips team members in need of financial assistance due to unforeseen emergencies and tragedies. Some of our first recipients were Stylists who, along with their families, lost their homes to the Moore, Oklahoma tornado. During our 2015 National Huddle, Team Members donated $35,000 towards the fund.

Sport Clips has also been a St. Baldrick’s supporter for many years and has generously committed to donating $1 million over the next three years.

Sponsorships

Sport Clips is a proud sponsor of Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin and Carl Edwards, and partners with numerous NCAA and professional sports teams.
